Company Today - The Nolte's

For one whole year my Gram, Minnie Colpitts Holmes, kept a diary. This was late in her life, after her stroke. Its a wee book with only room for five or six lines. Occasionally she would write "no company today." And this may have been right after she wrote something like "Nan and Marg were here." I guess close family didn't count as company, or perhaps she had forgotten when she took pen in hand.

Gram and Gramp had company much of the time. Gram was very hospitable, and a great cook in her day. Many people, whether distant family members came from afar or neighbors dropped in after supper, visited the Holmestead.

Who took this photo? I wonder. Janet Nolte and three of her children visited in 1969. Janet's husband Ralph and baby Emily stayed home in Texas. Dad usually took the pictures but he is in this one.
